چکیده

Adult T-cell leukemia (ATL) is a malignancy of mature lymphocytes caused by the retrovirus human T-cell lymphotrophic virus-I (HTLV-I). It is an aggressive leukemia with an overall mortality rate of 50% within 5 months; no conventional chemotherapy regimen appears successful in inducing long-term disease-free survival in ATL patients. However, ATL cells constitutively express high-affinity interleukin-2 receptors (IL-2%) identified by the anti-Tac monoclonal antibody, whereas normal resting cells do not. To exploit this difference in receptor expression, we administered anti-Tac intravenously (IV) to 19 patients with ATL. In general the patients did not suffer untoward reactions, and in 18 of 19 cases did not have a reduction in normal formed elementsof the blood. Seven patients developed remissions that were mixed (1 patient), partial (4 pa-

Monoclonal Antibody Production Against Vimentin by Whole Cell Immunization in a Mouse Model

Background: Pancreatic carcinoma is the fourth-leading cause of cancer death in the United States and due to its late presentation, only few patients would be candidates for the curative treatment of pancreactomy. Monoclonal antibodies have brought hope to targeted therapy. Objectives: To identify new biomarkers, a panel of monoclonal antibodies was genera...

Cloning and Expression of the Variable Regions of Anti-EGFR Monoclonal Antibody in E. coli for Production of a Single Chain Antibody

Background:Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) overexpression is a characteristic of several malignancies and could be considered as an excellent target for designing specific inhibitors such as anti-EGFR monoclonal antibodies for cancer therapy. Drawbacks exerted by large sizes of full-length antibodies have lead to the development of single chain antibodies, which benefit from having smal...

Application of radioimmunoassay technique for determination of antigen concentration in different cells with a new monoclonal antibody [Persian]

Introduction: Binding a monoclonal antibody to tumor associated antigens is an effective method for cancer therapy because these agents can specifically target malignant cells, in fact monoclonal antibodies are effective agents for diagnosis, grading and treatment of different kinds of cancers. Methods: In this research, a new monoclonal antibody against colon cancer cells was prepared an...

Therapeutic Applications of Monoclonal Antibodies in Multiple Sclerosis

Despite the various therapies available, the use of monoclonal antibodies is a highly specific approach that has only recently been of interest to researchers. The properties of antibodies have led to their use in the treatment of various diseases, including cancer, Alzheimer's disease, diabetes and multiple sclerosis (MS). MS, a chronic inflammatory disease, occurs commonly in young adults. Th...

Monoclonal Antibodies as Therapeutic Agents: Advances and Challenges

Despite the major advances in conventional forms of treatment (i.e. surgical techniques, radiotherapy and chemotherapy) and improved survival rates, cancer is still the second leading cause of death in developing countries. One major limitation of cytotoxic drugs and radiation in the treatment of cancer patients is their inability to discriminate between malignant and normal tissues. This in tu...

Administration of an anti-interleukin 2 receptor monoclonal antibody prolongs cardiac allograft survival in mice

Administration of the monoclonal antibody M7/20, which binds to the murine interleukin-2 (IL) receptor, significantly prolongs cardiac allograft survival in two H-2-incompatible strain combinations of inbred mice. The results support the important role of the IL-2 receptor in the mechanism of graft rejection, and suggest its suitability as a target for immunosuppressive therapy.
